What do you do now?
Y2K has come and gone. Your preparations were made . . . but absolutely NOTHING happened. What do you do now? You have several options. First, you can decide your efforts over the past months were motivated by mass hysteria and therefore foolish, come to your senses, and start getting rid of "the stuff". Or, second, you can stick your head in the sand, ignore it all, and eventually lose interest in your preparations and let them waste away. Or, third, you can take a step back, re-evaluate the situation, and then put together and implement a NEW preparedness plan.
A few thoughts:
- None of us are fools! We can't really explain what happened . . . or rather, what DIDN'T happen . . . but we ALL saw the potentialities and felt COMPELLED to prepare for Y2K. Prior to the 'event', the so-called experts were in near-universal agreement that if what could happen, did happen, there would be catastrophe. This is no time to second-guess nor beat-up on ourselves. There are already enough out there to do this to us! The grasshopper is so wise with his 20-20 hindsight. But the ant keeps preparing for the harsh winter -- and has that much LESS to prepare for the next year if it is only mild. So, who is the fool?
- The 'y2k bug' opened our eyes! Prior to Y2K, few of us thought about the "need to prepare" for potentially catastrophic disasters. But that "need to prepare" became real . . . and for what appeared at the time to be good cause. We started to see the world in a new way. In many ways, we began to see that this is not a "wonderful world". It can be frightening. We don't have to become pessimists, but we do need to get REAL! With these NEW eyes let us see the world for the way it REALLY is . . . and prepare accordingly.
- This is an opportune time to re-evaluate our situation! We can ask and answer questions like -- Are there potential disasters that could befall me and mine for which I am now [or can with a little effort be] prepared? Am I prepared for an earthquake? A flood? A tornado? A hurricane? Power outages from any of these causes? Can I protect myself, my family and my home?
